How you wake up your body can affect your entire day – and often the day of those around you. What is the first thing you should do when you open your eyes? Hint – it is NOT checking social media. S-T-R-E-T-C-H every muscle in your beautiful body. Point your toes and reach way above your head. Pull your toes back toward your shins and your shoulders into the mattress. Gently twist your torso to the left and then to the right. Relax your jaw and open wide. Slowly turn your head from side to side. After you have arisen with warm and glowing muscles, head for the kitchen.
It’s time to start your day the Sanoviv way! Each day in our tea bar, overlooking the ocean, our guests begin their day with lemon water. Squeeze the juice of half a lemon into a mug (organic is best or at least washed very well to scrub off some of the pesticides that can travel to the pulp on your knife). Add room temperature water to at least half the cup (hot water will kill some of the enzymes), and a shake or two of cayenne pepper. If you want to top this off with warm water on cool mornings, now is the time.
Lemon juice, although acidic, causes an alkaline reaction in your body. An alkalized body resists illness and (little bonus here) may help you lose weight. Cayenne pepper stimulates your circulatory and digestive system. And a morning ritual helps your mind know that you are caring for yourself even if everything after your cup of lemon water is mayhem.
