Thyroid Conditions

Treatment

Our objective is to identify potential root causes, reduce inflammation, improve symptoms and teach you how to eat and relax:

Nutritional support

At Sanoviv, food is medicine. We focus on what specific diet and nutritional interventions will create the desired outcome in your health. Specifically for Hypothyroidism we will focus on foods and other nutritional interventions that will decrease inflammation and increase key nutrients connected to healthy thyroid activity to be able to create.

Some health practitioners will not acknowledge the importance of food in our health and healing, even though these are the building blocks and messengers that our body uses to maintain optimal health.

All the food at Sanoviv is certified organic to not only provide you with the highest level of nutrition, but also not burden your system with the common toxins found in conventionally grown food, such as pesticides, hormones and other harmful chemicals, making any thyroid issues even worse.

GI Repair

Our gut is the first line of defense and contact of the external world and our internal environment. Our gut is key to having a balanced immune system and metabolism; it plays a big role in our emotional well being and is the place where we assimilate all the nutrients that will feed and help repair the entire body. Having optimal conditions in our gut can be of vital importance in dealing with and correcting several types of health imbalances. In Hypothyroidism this plays a huge role, as inflammation coming from gut issues can further complicate immune and hormonal problems. We have a wide spectrum of assessment and treatment tools to find and repair the main imbalance in your gut that might be contributing or aggravating your thyroid symptoms.

Food allergies

Just as food is medicine, it can also be poison if your body cannot digest and process it properly. There are some cases where there is a genetic “glitch” that can seriously impair our health because of food that we cannot break down in our body. Sometimes, these foods will overstimulate our immune system and create problems. We will asses not only the effect of gluten, but several other foods that can be implicated in thyroid problems.

Neural therapy

Neural therapy is a tool that we can use to remove interference fields in our body and create a greater balance. These interferences can be mediators of inflammation and a chronic activation of our immune system that can be targeting specific organs or glands, like the thyroid.

Supplements

Our program is designed to provide the right supplementation to optimize immune system response, diminish inflammation, fight off free radicals and lower oxidative stress, providing the right balance of nutrients to support healthy thyroid function.

Homotoxicology

Homotoxicology is the synthesis of classical homeopathy and conventional medicine. The main focus is placed on supporting the body healing from illness by allowing it to detoxify at a higher level. For hypothyroidism, Homotoxicology can be used to support optimal function of the thyroid with specific remedies.

Homeopathy

Homeopathy has long been used to treat specific aspects of health issues.  These remedies are meant to support the overall energetic and physical balance of your body. Depending on the physical, emotional and mental symptoms that you are dealing with, from one single remedy to different combination of remedies are prescribed. These remedies are diluted to infinitesimal levels, so the person is exposed to the memory registered in the water of the similar substance for hypothyroidism, the main objective would be to optimize thyroid function, reactivate the proper mechanism to build hormone and aid in renewing cellular function.

Natural alternatives to thyroid drugs

If you are worried about the side effects of traditional treatments for thyroid issues, we have an array of natural alternatives that are meant to support your body to create a balance in your hormone levels and metabolism.

Stress Management

We know that stress and relaxation play vital roles in how successful you are at creating health. In the continuum of stress and relaxation that our nervous system creates, we are most effective at healing when we connect with relaxation and least effective when we connect with stress. Stress can actually block healing responses in the body.

In Hypothyroidism, stress management is a key component of balancing hormone levels and aiding the thyroid’s recovery. We will help you to find the right tools to be proficient at connecting with relaxation when needed.

We know that your stay at Sanoviv is only the beginning of your healing process. To support you on your way to recovery, you will receive an individualized home program at the end of your stay which you will incorporate as part of your daily lifestyle. We will continue to support your progress with our After Care program that will effortlessly coordinate any questions or comments you might have for your health team.

Assessment

Have you been diagnosed or been dealing with hypothyroidism? Do you wonder why you still have symptoms when your thyroid lab tests are normal? Does it seem like even though you have tried medication, your thyroid symptoms are not improving? Of the more than 27 million Americans suffering from thyroid dysfunction, about half will go undiagnosed. Half of the detected cases of hypothyroidism are due to an autoimmune disorder called Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, where the body’s immune system attacks and destroys thyroid gland tissue. Often with thyroid problems, the question of why the thyroid gland is dysfunctional never comes up. Doctors just prescribe medication to mask the symptoms and ask you to keep doing what you are doing without looking any further.

If you are tired and wary of not having answers and taking medication without an end in sight, placing your care in Sanoviv’s hands can be the life changing experience that you are looking for. Using the functional medicine approach, our medical team digs deeper to look for the root cause of the thyroid condition and helps to identify solutions.

We are committed to making you our partner in your healing. Our specially trained staff will work with you to find and treat the root cause of your disease. We focus on treating you as an individual, as the biochemically, physiologically, structurally and psychospiritually unique person that you are. Working with you as an individual and finding the root cause of your health issues is our commitment.

We start off by focusing on the Clinical History of our guest, looking closely for risk factors that can range from life style, genetic predisposition, chronic infections, exposure to chemicals, pesticides, etc. Our entire health team works to create a comprehensive history of your health issues by focusing on each particular discipline and then weaving it all together. From here, it is much easier to determine what treatments have the best chance of success.

Thyroid disorders can present themselves in different ways. Though a variety of thyroid diseases exist, a focus on hypothyroidism, whether caused by Hashimoto’s or other stressors, such as psychological issues, Sanoviv team starts by providing a thorough assessment of your overall health as well as performing functional thyroid lab tests. The team will also evaluate your symptoms, which may be very different in every case.

The most common symptoms for hypothyroidism can include:

  • Fatigue
  • Depression
  • Morning headaches
  • Weight gain (despite complying with a properly balanced diet)
  • Constipation
  • Cold hands and feet (poor circulation and numbness)
  • Muscle cramps at rest
  • Dry or itchy skin
  • Brittle Nails
  • Dry or thin hair (hair falls out easily)
  • Swelling
  • Low body temperature
  • Slow wound healing
  • Elevated cholesterol or blood sugar
  • Chronic digestive problems
  • Loss of the outer third of eyebrows

Measuring Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) is a common way to assess thyroid function, but many other factors are involved, such as autoimmune issues, thyroid hormone conversion issues, nutritional deficiencies or pituitary dysfunction. Measuring TSH alone does not do a good job in pinpointing the culprit.

With this in mind, at Sanoviv we have made available a complete analysis of the endocrine system from the medical and nutritional points of view. Our team of experts will use several clinical tools to help identify the root cause of your thyroid dysfunction. Some of these are:

Complete thyroid panel (TSH, Free T3, Total T3, T4, Antibodies)

This battery of tests can give us a complete idea of what is going on in the thyroid. Sometimes we need to delve deeper into studying the thyroid, as many subclinical problems can escape the scope of the most common tests.

The complete thyroid panel will look between the lines and give us a more comprehensive look into your thyroid activity.

Leaky gut:

Our ability to digest and assimilate nutrients is a key component of staying healthy. Sometimes, because of multiple factors, our gut looses the ability to properly balance this intricate process, affecting our health. This is sometimes called Leaky Gut, as the gut becomes permeable and allows undigested food to flow into the blood stream, creating an autoimmune response. Several symptoms and health issues can arise from this imbalance.

We assess this closely in hypothyroidism as it can be a trigger or mediate for a chronic inflammatory state and immune response.

Iodine:

Your levels of iodine can be a clear indicator of a poorly functioning thyroid gland, as this is a crucial component of healthy thyroid activity. Balanced levels of iodine are related to healthy balance of hormones, energy, mood and weight.

We can carefully assess the levels of iodine in your body, as many symptoms of low iodine are often misdiagnosed as other health issues.

Vitamin D levels:

The research is very clear on the importance of vitamin D for your overall well being. Vitamin D is associated with numerous physiological processes that are vital, and thyroid health is implicated.

Gluten sensitivity:

Allergy or sensitivity to gluten has been discovered to be much more common than was previously thought. Consuming something we are allergic or sensitive to create a biochemical of inflammation as our body “attacks” the incoming invader. Consuming gluten, which is abundant in our food chain, can exacerbate thyroid issues, sometimes being the main trigger for hypothyroidism.

Integration

Not only do we have state of the art diagnostic and assessment tools, we have a fully integrated team of health professionals who will study all of this information and connect the dots in order to determine not only why your biochemical, physiological, structural and psychospiritual individuality has developed hypothyroidism, but also how you can regain your health. This disorder, like many others, usually comes from multiple imbalances in person’s life. You will work in partnership with your team of health professionals that in turn will work with the whole staff of health professionals to create a program specifically designed for you from all the information obtained.

In your Health team:

Your Medical doctor will facilitate your medical treatment and coordinate all other treatments into your program.

Your Psychologist will help to determine any emotional factors that might contribute to your thyroid issues, as unchecked stress can have a powerful effect on the function and structure of the endocrine system.

Your Dentist will assess and treat any issues that could exacerbate the inflammatory process like heavy metal toxicity from amalgams. We know that heavy metals can play a role in thyroid disorders. The need for amalgam removal and detoxification of heavy metals will be closely evaluated by your medical team.

Your Nutritionist will assess your diet and give you information on the critical role of certain foods that can contribute to thyroid dysfunction.

Your Chiropractor will assess and treat any structural imbalances that might be contributing to your thyroid issues, such as the adjustment of the lumbar spine that can help restore the balance to the nervous system.

Your Fitness Expert will help you strengthen and exercise your body in a holistic way to support detoxification and healing.
