Arthritis

Special Care Area

About

Arthritis is a worldwide disease. It affects 3 million people in Australia (15% of its population), 3 million in Europe, and 50 million in the US. Though there are 100 different types of Arthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoarthritis are the most common.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a disorder in which the body’s own immune system starts to attack body tissue. Most damage occurs to the joint lining and cartilage between two opposing bones. It most often affects the fingers, wrists, knees and elbows. The disease appears symmetrically on both sides of the body and can lead to severe deformity in a few years if not treated. The stiffness associated with Rheumatoid arthritis is generally worse in the morning but decreases with activity.

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease often referred to as the ‘wear & tear’ arthritis. It occurs when the protective cartilage at the ends of your bones wears down over time. It can also be triggered by an injury to a joint or obesity. It commonly appears as people get older. This arthritis tends to be worse after exercise.

Arthritis is primarily a disease of inflammation. Inflammation creates an enzyme that eats away cartilage thus destroying the cushioning between the bones. The best treatment is to reduce body inflammation which can reduce symptoms and stop the progression of the disease.

There are a variety of symptoms associated with Arthritis. Some of these are:

Stiffness of the joints

Swelling/warmth

Pain

Inability to use hands or walk

Tiredness

Weight loss

Poor sleep

Muscle aches and pains

Tenderness

Health care for Arthritis alone runs into the billions. Traditional treatments often use anti-inflammatory drugs and COX-2 inhibitors. Extreme cases lead to artificial joint replacement or surgery.

Arthritis Assessment at Sanoviv

Upon arrival at Sanoviv Medical Institute, we will begin by taking a clinical history looking closely for risk factors which would include:

Lifestyle

Diet & Physical Activity

Genetic predisposition

Chronic infections

Exposure to chemicals/pesticides

Injuries/surgeries

Other assessments will include

Laboratory Testing: These will give us indicators of inflammation and the current state of your body.

Functional Testing: This looks beyond the symptoms to assess underlying causes that might be contributing to your Arthritis.

Hidden Infections: We have many different options to assess this possibility. Hidden infections can create a chronic inflammatory state in the body that can exacerbate your symptoms.

Oral Health: We will evaluate your current oral health and see if any specific factor like inflammation, gingivitis or cavitations are triggering or aggravating your arthritis.

Gut Health: A common condition that seems to go along with Arthritis is a ‘leaky’ gut. We will focus on understanding the current state of your gut to see if it is having an impact on your health.

Food Allergies: Along with having a ‘leaky’ gut, you can be sensitive or allergic to certain foods that will create inflammation. We have lab tests that can give us valuable information on this and how it is affecting your health.

Dental Exam: Gum disease and tooth infections can be a hidden trigger increasing toxicity and compromising your immune system. Treating these can have a substantial effect at reducing the toxic level of your body which can aggravating the arthritis.

Upon arrival at Sanoviv you will receive a team consisting of a medical doctor, nutritionist, dentist, chiropractor, fitness expert and bioenergy practitioner.  After each does their diagnostic evaluation, they will meet together and customize a program specifically designed for you based upon the information  they obtained from the diagnostics.

Arthritis Treatment

Conventional medicine usually treats Arthritis with anti-inflammatory drugs and COX-2 inhibitors.  If it becomes severe enough, doctors may recommend artificial joint replacement or surgery.  These treatments can have serious side effects.

At Sanoviv, we focus on the underlying causes of Arthritis, primarily chronic inflammation that in traditional medicine goes unchecked and mainly ignored.

Here is an overview of some of the most effective treatments we have found for Arthritis

Detoxification: Most the therapies and practices at Sanoviv have some detoxifying effect. The goal is to clean out the body so it will work in a more healthy way. Since toxicity can create chronic inflammation, our arthritis guests will greatly benefit from our toxin-free building and furnishings, organic, dairy and gluten free meals, 100% cotton organic clothing and a quiet, peaceful healing environment.

Oxygen and Ozone Therapies: These proven treatments are very effective in treating inflammation, free radicals and other core issues that arthritis patients deal with.

Structural Support: Our chiropractors can find ways to support pain management, increase range of motion and contribute to your general well-being.

Diet: A poor diet is one of the main contributing factors of inflammation in our lives. The Standard American Diet (SAD) can have devastating effects on your body, aggravating the symptoms of Arthritis. At Sanoviv, you will learn how to eat to live, choosing healthy and tasty alternatives for meals and snacks. We will target your meal plan to lower inflammation and be an active part of eliminating your symptoms. All the meals at Sanoviv are 100% organic and free of dairy and gluten, which are most common food allergens. This will be a big factor in healing your digestive system and allowing nutrients to be completely assimilated by your body, supporting your healing.

Supplementation: We have a specific protocol of natural anti-inflammatory supplements to support the treatment of your illness while not having undesired side effects. The goal is to build your immune system which will help diminish inflammation, provide the right nutrition to build up your immune system, fight off free radicals and provide the right fatty acids to support your health.

I.V. Therapy: When the digestive system is compromised, vital nutrients are not assimilating into the body. We use specially formulated IV therapies that bypass the digestive system and deliver nutrients directly into the blood stream. For example, we may use high doses of IV Vitamin C and Glutathione to curb free radicals that can contribute to inflammation.

Energy Medicine: Through bioenergetic assessment and treatment we can create an energetic balance within the body, modulate the inflammatory response, support cellular regeneration, support detoxification, and manage the pain associated Arthritis.

Fitness: Taking into consideration the effects of Arthritis on the body, movement and fitness will be an important aspect to treating your arthritis. Our Fitness instructors will help you exercise and move your body in a way that supports your health, vitality and detoxification while making sure that this does not create more harm.

Spa Treatments: Sanoviv has a world-class spa overlooking the ocean where you will be pampered with different types of treatments. Our spa therapies are coordinated by your doctor to aid in detoxification, diminish lymphatic blockages in the body, and reduce oxidative stress.

We know that your stay at Sanoviv is only the beginning of your healing process. To support you on your way to recovery, at the end of your stay you will receive an individualized home program which will allow you to continue the healing begun at Sanoviv. You will want to incorporate these guidelines into your daily lifestyle. We will continue to support your progress with our 3-month After Care program where our professionals can address any questions oradjustments that might be needed to your home program.
