Real Salt

Salt

In 2011 we began our Healthy Stuff goody bag program here at Sanoviv Medical Institute to help our guests to make “healthier” product choices in their lives.  Our product suggestions come from our own research and experiences of our professional staff.  Our very first contributor was Redmond Trading Company, L.C., they donated a generous amount of their ‘Real Salt’ product. This year they have generously donated more ‘Real Salt’ and two other great products (Redmond Clay and Redmond Bath salts) which have been included in this year’s Healthy Stuff goody bag which is given to each guest who visits Sanoviv Medical Institute.

Health benefits of salt

Some people have asked “why are you giving salt to your guests? Everyone knows that salt causes high blood pressure, right?” Our answer is this…

We would definitely encourage anyone with high blood pressure to consult his or her practitioner or physician. Here is why we give Real Salt (which is  certified ‘Gluten Free’) to our guests. Sodium is crucial for maintaining the health of every cell in the human system. It permeates the fluid between cells (often called the extra ‘cellular fluid’) and potassium exists mainly on the inside of cells (in the ‘intracellular fluid’)… If either of these minerals is deficient or in excess, cell permeability becomes compromised and the health of the cells suffer.

Besides being a component of extracellular fluid that bathes every living cell. Sodium is important in two other ‘salty oceans’ in the body- our blood and our lymphatic fluid. It is also necessary for the production of hydrochloric acid, the digestive enzyme secreted by the stomach in order to help digest protein. Along with potassium, sodium is required for the proper functioning of our muscles…

With the many crucial roles sodium plays, it’s clear that if we had no sodium, we would cease to exist.

So, we offer a great big Thank You! To Redmond Trading Company for their donations. Please, visit them at www.realsalt.com for more information on Real Salt and their other wonderful products.

  1. Thank you for this information. However, could you talk about the difference between, say, Diamond Crystal salt and real salt. What are the health benefits to using natural, unadulterated salt versus processed table salt? What about the differences in minerals and Iodine content, etc.? That would be truely helpful health-related information, instead of what seems merely an ad for Real Salt.

    • Basically, we are not in favor of using regular table salt since most is processed to temperatures in excess of 1000 degrees. This significantly alters its chemical structure and strips the salt of its trace minerals. Many processed food products use this type of salt. Some sea salts are also processed in a similar manner. We have tested several sea salt brands for heavy metals as well as mineral content. We have found the REAL SALT brand to be free from heavy metals such as aluminum and arsenic and rich in beneficial trace minerals. It is also a gluten-free product which is important for those sensitive to wheat proteins. This is a product that we do recommend to our guests and use here so our post was also a “thank you” to the Redmond company for providing us with samples for our guests. There are other brands we would recommend, but all are “unrefined” as this manner of processing retains the most nutrients and is in its most natural state.
